Dutch Championships Four Cross; review

There was a lot to do about the second place of Joost in the final of the Dutch Championships Four Cross. Here are some answers...

Wichman was fastest throughout the whole day, but in the big final he didn't win. Martijn Scherpen got passed him in the first turn and won the title. Joost was honest about it afterwards.

'I'm a professional rider, I have to accept the rules my sponsor states. I'm riding for a living, and everybody knows that finding sponsors isn't easy. So when my sponsor tells me not to win the Dutch title, and he has a pretty good reason, I haven't got much choice. To my regret because when I'm at the gate I always aiming for the victory.

There is just one big problem:

When you become National Champion, the UCI tells you to wear the national jersey during all official races. And that's something my sponsor can't tolorate. His name will be less visible. It's a stupid rule by the UCI, they should allow sponsor-shirts with a small part of it showing the national flag. Then everything would be solved.

The reason I participated in the Championships is A - because I like to compete against enthousiastic riders from the Netherlands and B - because there are some UCI-points to win. But after reading the fuzz about it on internet I might change my mind...'
