Nissan World Cup 5 in Maribor; review and picture |
|
Joost Wichman was hot, the days after his second World Cup win in Maribor. Joostwichman.com saw a lot of new visitors passing by. And the online mountainbike magazines praised the way he pulled it of in muddy Slovenia. Impressive from quater final till the podium. We've collected some quotes and found a great picture.
Joost Wichman from the Netherlands looked comfortable sliding the bike in the mud “...not bad for a bmx-er aye?” he quipped at the finish.

But in the first corner, Wichman, who was on the last position after the start, used his chance and passed all of his competitors on the inside.

In the Final, Graves again got the holeshot out of the gate onto the first straightaway, but Wichman made a gutsy move in the second corner to slip through on the outside, forcing Graves to brake and drop to third behind Saladini. In the fourth corner, Graves managed to get back into second while Rinderknecht moved into third, but Wichman was long gone and celebrating his second win of the season.

Wichman had been king of the first-turn move all evening, and the finals were no different, with him sneaking up the inside of Graves to take the lead. After that, he held his lines like a champ, knowing that whoever tried squeaking past would risk losing it in the slippery conditions.

In the main finals Wichman was the favourite. All night he had been killing it on track and that didn't change for the finals.
