Report: Bensink Speed & Style Contest 2010

Joost Wichman and Desmond Tessemaker wrote a report of the Bensink Speed & Style Contest and added some nice pictures. See you next year!

The MTB and BMX gathering

Venue of the event was, just like last year, the backyard of Bensink BMX Gates.

In 2009 we organised the first Bensink Speed & Style Jam. It was a small gathering, just for fun. To have a good time with friends and to close the season. The Jam contained two disciplines, speed (set a time) and dirt (the biggest tricks).

With the help of some of Joost Wichman's personal sponsors, like Rockstar, SRAM, Adidas eyewear, R.S.P. and Schwalbe, we managed to pull the event together within 2 weeks! The Jam received a lot of positive feedback so we decided to do it again in 2010, but much bigger...

This year there were, once again, two contests! A dual slalom contest (Speed) and a dirt jump contest (Style). To get the riders in the perfect mind set, there was a DJ playing music. The best thing about the contests, in our opinion, is that the contests are a mix of everything; racers meet dirtjumpers, BMX meets MTB!

A lot of riders came to the Bensink compound. With over 30 degrees it was a bit hot... But the organizers solved that problem with 4 small swimmingpools to cool the riders and the crowd down.

Some big names out of BMX and MTB were at the gate such as:

Johannes Fischbach (German Champion 4X)
Bas de Bever (Old School Legend)
Raymon van de Biezen (European Champion BMX)
Max Ganzer (German Champion BMX)
Tomas Slavik (Czech Champion 4X and 2nd in World Cup 4X)
Joost Wichman (European Champion 4X)
Anneke Beerten (Leader World Cup 4X)

And we saw:

Vans BMX Dirtjump Team
MeatFly Dirtjump Team
Nike 6.0 Dirtjump Team

Speed contest:

With some top BMX and 4X guys at the gate, the field was pretty much packed. With Bas de Bever and Fischbach going out in the quarters, it was Slavik, Wichman, Tepper and Van de Biezen making it to the semi finals.

In the semi finals Wichman managed to beat Slavik and Tepper was no match for Van de Biezen. The small finale between Tepper (BMX) and Slavik (4X) was a tight one, but at the end Slavik pulled it off and took 3th place.

The first leg of the final between Van de Biezen and Wichman was tight as well, but Wichman took it. The second leg Van de Biezen showed his skills and did beat Wichman. In the end Van de Biezen (European Champ BMX) took the win over Wichman (European champ 4X) by 0.01 second. Van de Biezen took home a Bensink BMX one man gate. Congrates to him!

Results Speed:

1st Raymon vd Biezen (Dutch Olympic BMX Team)
2nd Joost Wichman (RSP Mountainbike Team)
3rd Tomas Slavik (RSP Mountainbike Team)

Style contest:

It all started with 3 piles of dirt and a starting ramp. What do you get? A massive dirt jump contest with riders from the Czech Republic, Germany and of course Holland. A group of 30 people entered the competition, devided in two qualification groups. Everyone got 3 runs, the best 2 were counted.

In the finals the riders did 3 runs but only the best one counted. We saw some crazy runs coming down the starting ramp and in the end Daniel Wedemeijer took the win.

Results Style:

1. Daniel Wedemeijer
2. Roy Groenewegen
3. Bart Mol

We would like to thank all our sponsors and volunteers for making this event a great succes:
