World Cup Four Cross 2 in Fort William: review

According to a lot of people the World Cup in Fort William was one of the best 4X events ever. And Joost Wichman played an important role in it.

Joost was feeling strong and predicted a good result almost 2 weeks ago. Qualification was not what he expected (7th) but during the finals he showed his great form.

The story almost ended in the semi final, when he crashed with Prokop but still maneged to cross the line in second place. In the big final he was up against World Champion Slavik, Rinderknecht and Graf. Graves missed his start in the semi and had to battle for 5th place in the small final.

Joosts start was outstanding, taking the lead and holding off several moves of the others. Everything went smoothly and it looked like his 4th World Cup victory was just a matter of time. But it went wrong in the rock-section. He unclipped his shoe and went over the bars pretty hard.

Goodbye victory. And it got even worse because his bike flew a few metres across the track and took down teammate Tomas Slavik. So it wasn't meant to be in Scotland but in this shape we are certain Joost wil be leading a big final again in the near future.
